Meditation Is Easier Than You Think


Meditation is easier than you think. Actually, you can meditate anywhere, anytime,
under any circumstances. It is just awareness. We say that the essence of meditation
is awareness. Awareness means
you know what you are thinking, what you are feeling, what you are doing. That is awareness, the knowingness,
to know. Many people think meditation
is something very difficult, empty your mind,
do not think of anything, concentrate. That is a misunderstanding of meditation. Actually, to meditate,
you do not have to do anything, like blocking thoughts, create a special
state of mind, or be peaceful and calm. There is no need for that. Simply “be.” As long as you are aware of something
and maintain that awareness, that is meditation. Of course,
sometimes when we meditate like that, lots of thoughts pop up in our mind, like our to do lists,
“I have to do this. I need to talk to that person. I have this important deadline. Am I wasting time? How do I know
if I am doing this right or wrong?” All these thoughts may come,
that is normal. When I was young, the first time I meditated
I had all of these things coming. Sometimes I was lost
and completely forgot to listen to sound and then, suddenly, I remembered,
“Oh!” Then I forgot again! That is okay.
There is no problem. You can try again: listen to sound,
forget, listen to sound, forget. That is sound meditation. Today,
please practice this. When you go out or when you are at your work,
just listen. You can listen to any sound. Just listen to sound
anywhere, anytime.

  2. Sir yongey mingyur rinpoche. I have a question about eating meat while following a buddhist path. Can someone eat meat or do someone need to be a vegetarian or vegan or doesnโ€™t matter? Ps Iโ€™m a vegetarian for 5 year now. Im curious to your answer sir

  4. I always try to meditate but lots of thoughts come and I forget I'm breathing. I've been doing this for about 2 years now and I find it very difficult to concentrate on my breathing and not get lost in my thoughts. Any advise.

  12. I can meditate very easily formally. Eyes closed… my mind can be blank for a very long time…i can see thoughts they come and go and dont bother me.

    But the trick is meditation informally. When you are not sitting down on a cushion. Thoughts come and they irritate me. Repetitive thoughts..while working… awareness in this mode is the most difficult. Im aware of course as im aware im having distracted thoughts or repetitive thoughts…. but its harder to let go.

    On the cushion… easy to let go
    In real life not easy. And im finding on the cushion meditation isnt helping my informal real life meditation…

    How can i get better at informal meditation please

  16. Hi Guruji, I have few questions for you.. If we manifest our future birth how ever we want, it will be like that or what we have now, same situations same people we meet again in the future.
