How To Meditate For Children: A Kid’s Guide to Peace

Hi! In this video i’m going to teach you how
to practice meditation. What is meditation? Meditation means to focus your mind on
something; it means to clear your mind; to calm it
down and to clean out all bad thoughts. When you practice meditation you try to focus on something with all
your attention, not letting your mind wander or get
mixed up in bad thoughts or feelings. Why practice meditation? First, meditation makes you happy. When your mind is focused and clear you’ll forget about all your problems
and just be yourself. You’ll stop thinking about the past, stop thinking about the future, and be happy with what you have here
and now. Second, meditation can teach you many things. Some people who practice meditation
learn how to leave their bodies and fly through the air. Some are able to read other people’s minds. And some can see things far, far away that no one else can see. But most important of all meditation teaches you about yourself and the people around you. It teaches you how your mind works so
you don’t get confused or mixed up about anything in your life. Third, meditation makes your mind sharp
and clear so you can live your life better. When your mind is clear, you’re ready for
anything. You’ll know how to talk to your friends,
family, and even people you meet for the first
time, without feeling shy or embarrassed. You’ll be able to study and remember
things much better and work hard helping your family
friends and yourself in whatever work you have to do. Finally, meditation makes you a better person. When your mind is clear, you won’t get angry
about something you don’t like, because you’ll understand that’s just the
way it is. You won’t get greedy about things you
like, because you’ll be happy with what you
have. And you won’t be confused or attached to
anything, because you’ll understand everything about
yourself and the whole world around you. Sound good? Okay, let’s start. First, we need something to focus on. It should be something simple, something
easy for you to think of. For now, we’ll start with a cat. All you have to do is look at the cat and say to yourself,
“cat”. That’s it. Just say to yourself again and again,
“cat, cat, cat”. You don’t even have to say it out loud. Just say it in your mind when you look
at the cat. Try it now. Got it? Okay, now close your eyes and think about
a cat, and say to yourself, “cat”. Just like before. Only this time see the cat in your mind. Go ahead, close your eyes and try it now. Done? Okay, let’s try a dog next. Look at the dog.
You can say to yourself, “dog, dog, dog”. Say it slowly, don’t rush. Now close your eyes and try to see
the dog in your mind. Say, “dog, dog, dog”. and think of a dog. If you can’t see it in your mind just open your eyes and look again. Peeking is allowed. Okay, now let’s try our family members. Think of your mother, or someone you love very much like your
mother. If they are there with you you can look
at them and say to yourself, “mother”, or whatever name you call them. “Mother, mother, mother”. Again and again. Once you can do it without looking, close your eyes,
think of them, and say “Mother, mother, mother”. Or, whatever name you call them, just
repeat that, thinking of them at the same time. Next, think of your father, or someone you love like a father. Same thing – if they are there or if you
have a picture of them, just look and say, “father”. or, “dad”, or whatever name you have for them, until you can do without looking “father, father, father”. Then close your eyes and do the same
thing, “father, father, father”. Okay, now let’s try something a bit
different. Now let’s focus on ourselves. To start, you can look at yourself – look at your legs, your arms, your body, and say to yourself, “me”. Just repeat it to yourself while looking at
your body. Then, close your eyes and do the same
thing Think of how you are sitting and say to yourself, “me, me, me”. Once you get the hang of it, you can
just think to yourself, “sitting”. “Sitting, sitting, sitting”, thinking about yourself sitting still. If you want, you can try it lying down and say to yourself, “lying, lying, lying”. Or, if you want, you can walk back and forth,
saying, “walking, walking”. All of these are ways to practice
meditation. Another good object of meditation is
the breath. Try this: Sit comfortably, or even lie down, and put your hands on your stomach. You should feel your stomach rising and
falling, When your breath comes in and goes out. When your stomach rises, just say to yourself, “rising”. And when it falls, say, “falling”. “Rising, falling”. “Rising, falling”. Again, you don’t have to say it out loud; Just put your mind on your stomach, and think to yourself “rising, falling”, as it happens. The truth is, you can meditate on just
about anything. If you feel happy or sad, you can say to yourself, “happy, happy”,
or “sad, sad”, and you won’t get upset or stressed
out with bad feelings if you’re thinking about something you
can just say, “thinking, thinking”, and you won’t be afraid of bad thoughts
anymore. If you want something, you can say
“wanting, wanting”, then you won’t be sad if you don’t get it. If you feel angry you can just say
“angry, angry” and you won’t need to yell or scream or hurt yourself or other people. If you can’t find anything to meditate on just go back and look at the stomach
rising and falling, and say to yourself,
“rising, falling”, like before. or pick something like a cat or a dog,
or someone you love, and focus on them instead. Go ahead, pick one object and let’s
practice together. By now you should feel like your mind
is more focused than before. In the beginning it may be difficult,
because you’re learning something new, but if you practice it again and again, you’ll find your mind calming down and
clearing up and you will begin to feel peaceful,
happy, and free from suffering more than ever
before. This is how to practice meditation. If you want to try it by yourself,
check out the next video where you can practice all of these techniques all by
yourself. Good luck!

  1. I thought it was going to be a bit cheezey, but it's fun! It's wonderful…thanks so much for posting this up!

  2. I don't believe that one bit. I have lived in a foreign country for years and have not picked up the accent. I even married a local and have kids who speak like locals. You my friend are a poser.

You know you don't have to wear a robe like that and pretend to be an Indian to be spiritual or meditate. To me it takes away from what you are saying because it is obvious you care too much about how people perceive you. You are not Indian, go home, look insward for spiritual growth.

  3. I guess it affects some people more than others. Look at his earlier videos, you can't really hear the indian accent

  4. 'Some people who practice meditation learn how to leave there bodies and fly through the air' that can't be true people

  5. This is amazing …I am 13 and after trying this video i am so focused and I am able to study so well …thank you so much thanks a ton

  6. You does'nt know what you are saying not only indians have monk there are chinese monks because I am filipino half chinese so I know it

  7. My young 5 yr old son asks for this video every night. The more he watches it, the more he tries the techniques. After less than a week, he isn't silly about it anymore. Thank you so much!! Much love and gratitude. 3

  8. I've lived in Ireland for 6 years now and I picked some Irish accent. All people are different in their experiences and when speaking different languages you might have to make the inside of your mouth move and work in a different way in the effort to pronounce things the right way – this might lead to changes in your own accent or to make it different depending on the context. Moreover, I doubt this guy has any need to pretend to be Indian – I don't even think he's been in India at all. Peace

  9. Thanks for doing this series – great idea! I agree with Oliver revilO – someday the school day will begin with a meditation period.

  10. Why do you encourage children to pursue mystical powers?
At the beginning of your video you say that some meditators can…
leave their bodies and fly through the air
    read other peoples minds
see things far, far away, that no one else can see

  11. Dear Bhante. Could you please teach me loving-kindness meditation for kids? Sadhu…x3! Sukhihotu/MuditaYew

  12. omg if this makes me confident I can speak to my crush!๐Ÿ˜ฐ๐Ÿ˜ฐ๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ˜ฒ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ฅ๐Ÿ˜ฅ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

  13. i'm turning 12 in february on the first and i've been having troubles meditating to the point where i sit there and do nothing except breath. this video is very useful!

  14. but I am nine myself and I know that you can't fly or read other peoples minds, But you still need better effects that are less creepy and all I would feel creeped out if I saw this, not thinking that I would learn something, you just need better effects and fewer sounds.

  15. Meditation can't be done on this phones ipads or TV'sเฅค ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ‘ŽBut still you are making an effortเฅค Thanks and All The best to youเฅค ๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿต๏ธ๐Ÿฅ€๐Ÿฅ€๐Ÿฅ€๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿฅ€๐Ÿฅ€๐Ÿฅ€๐Ÿฅ€๐Ÿฅ€๐Ÿฅ€๐Ÿฅ€๐ŸŒพ๐ŸŒพ๐ŸŒพ๐ŸŒพ๐ŸŒพ๐ŸŒต๐ŸŒต๐ŸŒต๐ŸŒต๐ŸŒด๐ŸŒด๐ŸŒด๐ŸŒด๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒบ๐Ÿ๐Ÿโ˜˜๏ธ๐Ÿโ˜˜๏ธ๐Ÿโ˜˜๏ธ๐Ÿ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒพ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒพ๐ŸŒฟ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒพ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒพ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒพ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒพ๐ŸŒฑ๐ŸŒพ๐ŸŒฑ

  16. I'm doing meditation as an 11 year old dep. me, But yeah, Trying to clear my mind really makes me. I would just stop thinking, caring about my fake friends, Bullying, I am used to be so touched with emotions, But yeah, Clearing my mind, aura really makes me feel better, I could just feel getting the dark emotions out, Like when filled balloon with air, Gets empty, With no dark emotions there.

  17. And also when you said the thing 'Think about someone you love like a mother' i thinked of my father, But than i had to think about him again, It's my favorite person ever. He teached me all this stuff sometimes..

  19. Holy the comments on here are very hostile. Maybe we are not practicing our daily meditation sadhanas. If we where perhaps there would be less judgement and ego involvement. I dont hear an Indian accent. But I have to say when I went to Tennessee for a month I cam back to Canada with a noticable accent to my friends. I myself was unaware of it. As far as siddhis that come from meditation it is indeed possible. From mantra japa alone I have had many seemingly impossible things happen in my life. I think we should look within instead of without after all that is the point of yoga that is where the real transformation happens. We can sit in silence and observe our thoughts and we can place judgment on external things and become identified with any of these beliefs or thoughts but that is not truly meditation that is just concentration. On the upside concentration is where it starts.
