CUENTOS DE LA INDIA – The Sneaky Brahmin

THE SNEAKY BRAHMIN In northern India, mountains are so high they seem to caress the clouds. In a small town, lost in the vastness of the Himalayas, a meeting
took place between a traveler, an ascetic and a brahmin. They told each other of how much time they dedicated to God and of the daily charity they received from the faithful. The ascetic said: “-What I do is draw a
circle on the ground and toss coins up into the air. The ones that land inside the circle
I keep for myself. The rest I offer to the Divine One.” The traveler explained his method: “-I also make a circle on the ground and
toss the coins up into the air, but I keep the ones that land outside of it and offer
God the ones that land inside.” Finally, the brahmin said: “-I also draw a circle o the ground and
toss the coins up into the air. The ones that do not fall are the ones that God keeps. The
ones that land I keep for my needs.” *The master says: “This is how many so-called
religious people proceed. They have two faces, one even more false than the other.”
