First, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to Reuters, the United States fired cruise missiles on Friday at a Syrian airbase from which President Donald Trump said a deadly chemical weapons attack had been launched, the first direct U.S. assault on the government of Bashar Assad in six years of civil war. In the biggest foreign policy decision of his presidency so far, Trump ordered the step of directly targeting the Syrian military for its suspected role in a poison gas attack that killed at least 70 people. The move catapulted Washington into confrontation with Russia, which has military advisers on the ground aiding its ally, President Assad. The Kremlin denounced the strikes as illegal.

Second, today, under the Sign category of INCREASED PERSECUTION — According to the BBC, Egypt’s president has announced a three-month state of emergency after attacks on two Coptic churches that left at least 44 people dead. The Islamic State said it was behind the blasts in Tanta and Alexandria on Palm Sunday. The group has targeted Christians in Egypt recently and warns of more attacks, saying that Christians would pay in “rivers of blood from their children.” President Sisi warned that the war against the jihadists would be “long and painful”, and said that the state of emergency would come into force after all “legal and constitutional steps” were taken.

Third, today, under the Sign category of WARS & RUMORS OF WARS — According to The Sun, Russia and Iran have said they will respond to any further American military actions following the air strike in Syria over the weekend. In a joint statement, the command center for the two countries and their allied groups said, ‘America’s actions are an aggression on Syria and are a crossing of red lines. From now on, we will respond with force to any aggressor or any breach of red lines from whoever it is and America knows our ability to respond well.’ Iranian President Hassan Rouhani condemned what he called “flagrant US aggression” following the missile strike on a Syrian air base. He warned that the American strikes risked escalating extremism in the region.

Fourth, today, under the Sign category of DISTRESS AMONG NATIONS — According to Reuters, a U.S. official has announced that a U.S. Navy strike group will be moving toward the western Pacific Ocean near the Korean peninsula as a show of force as concerns grow about North Korea’s advancing weapons program. Earlier this month, North Korea tested a liquid-fueled Scud missile which only traveled a fraction of its range. The strike group includes an aircraft carrier and will make its way from Singapore toward the Korean peninsula. The government, citing North Korea’s worrisome behavior, said, “We feel the increased presence is necessary.”

Fifth, today, under the Sign category of DISEASE AND EPIDEMICS — According to CBS, Zika may seem like last year’s problem, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it’s not. The CDC published a study this week warning that the mosquitos carrying the virus will be back and biting again this summer. There have been over 40,000 cases of the virus in the U.S. and upwards of 1.5 million cases around the world. Most distressing are cases of pregnant women whose children are often born with deformed brains and vision problems. There is no known cure for zika although there has been progress towards a vaccine that can alleviate some of the effects of the disease.

The prophetic passage of Scripture that we are looking at today is Jeremiah 30:15-17 which reads: “Why criest thou for thine affliction? thy sorrow is incurable for the multitude of thine iniquity: because thy sins were increased, I have done these things unto thee. Therefore all they that devour thee shall be devoured; and all thine adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and they that spoil thee shall be a spoil, and all that prey upon thee will I give for a prey. For I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeketh after.”

Allow me to share with you some commentary on this passage from the Popular Bible Prophecy Commentary, edited by Tim LaHaye and Ed Hindson.

Jeremiah 30:12 describes Israel’s sickly state: “Your wound is incurable, and your injury is serious.” In verse 13, “There is no one to plead your cause.” There is no one who can apply bandages to Israel’s wounds; there is no one who can apply “healing medicines.” The “healing” here is like that of new skin over a wound. The problem here is that new skin cannot grow. Verses 14-15 reveal that it was God Who wounded Israel. He reminds the people that “all your lovers”—meaning the foreign gods with whom Israel has committed spiritual adultery—”have forgotten” them. Those nations provided no healing balm for Israel. The reason Israel has been abandoned this way is that God has done the wounding “with the wound of an enemy, with the punishment of a cruel one.” The reason it was necessary for God to wound Israel is that their “iniquity is great and [their] sins are numerous.”

If the Lord tarries His Coming and we live, we will continue looking at the prophetic passages of the Bible in our next broadcast / podcast.

Our second coming quote for today is from John Calvin. He said, “When Christ returned to Heaven, He withdrew His physical presence from our sight. He didn’t stop being with the disciples, but by the ascension fulfilled His promise to be with us to the end of the world. As His body was raised to heaven, so His power and reign have spread to the uttermost parts of the earth.”

If you are not ready for the return of Jesus Christ, may I encourage you to get ready today by receiving Him as your Savior. Here is how.

First, accept the fact that you are a sinner, and that you have broken God’s law. The Bible says in Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Second, accept the fact that there is a penalty for sin. The Bible states in Romans 6:23: “For the wages of sin is death…”

Third, accept the fact that you are on the road to hell. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 10:28: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” Also, the Bible states in Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Now that is bad news, but here is the good news. Jesus Christ said in John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Just believe in your heart that Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried, and rose from the dead by the power of God for you so that you can live eternally with Him. Pray and ask Him to come into your heart today, and He will. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Keep looking up for your redemption draweth nigh. Let us join in the prayer of John the Revelator — “Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” God bless you.
